New Toll-Free Number for IRS

The Internal Revenue Service now has a toll-free phone number for tax exempt organizations and employee plans. The new service is staffed so that callers can speak with a live representative, or using a menu-driven message, callers can go directly to one of five topic areas: questions on the status of an exempt organization; help in applying for recognition of an exempt status; help in completing a tax return; help on advance ruling period; and forms, publications and applications.

The toll-free number is 877/829-5500. The IRS is also located at www.irs.gov
